RTX 2080 is on average 6% faster than the GTX 1080 Ti which is a very marginal improvement and is not worth considering. This is a fairly known constraint of the 1080Ti's - in that they generally hover around 2000 on the core - and (I think by design) - they all operate within a 1-5% perf target - even across AIB models.
With that in mind - I then swapped out and ended up trying a few different 1080Tis (thanks to Micro Center's generous return policy) - it was also about this time that the rumors were running about the 2080 launch, and I found out about the EVGA step-up program, as well as heard good reviews regarding their products - so I focused on buying EVGA with the potential to step-up to a 2080/Ti depending on price @ launch (more on this below): EVGA 1080Ti SC2 (swap out from above DOA), EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 (swap out from above - due to Labor Day sale - $689 - later returned about 2 weeks later - not satisfied - and began looking around for cheaper 1080Ti prices.. ).
